Re: New Godzilla Movie
I'm actually looking forward to this one I have said that Godzilla Minus One was the best Godzilla movie ever, which is a tall order with the original and Shin Godzilla out there. (Shin's pretty cool. Go Nagai know how to make destruction beautiful and heartbreaking)
Re: New Godzilla Movie
I'm a little worried, because how do you follow-up a story that was wrapped up so well in the first movie? Are they going to have a second monster, or is Godzilla just bigger and stronger this time? You can't have this version of Godzilla because the good guy, because that would be tone-deaf as Hell, but having a second monster along with Godzilla feels like overkill. Also, what's he doing in America?

Godzilla’s remains begin to regenerate at the end of Minus 1.Blackleaf wrote: Mon Apr 20, 2026 4:49 pm I'm a little worried, because how do you follow-up a story that was wrapped up so well in the first movie? Godzilla may as well destroy our meaningless statue of liberty.

Or take her to a movie.

I was talking about the human characters. Their arcs seemed pretty well wrapped up in the first movie. When I heard there would be a second, I figured there would be a new cast. And maybe there will be, with Godzilla going to America, but we do see the main character from the first movie in the trailer.Pappy wrote: Mon Apr 20, 2026 8:37 pmGodzilla’s remains begin to regenerate at the end of Minus 1.Blackleaf wrote: Mon Apr 20, 2026 4:49 pm I'm a little worried, because how do you follow-up a story that was wrapped up so well in the first movie? "Please go see my movie in the theater."
Not sure how to feel about this.
Re: New Godzilla Movie
There is an interesting possibility I saw brought up elsewhere that could be interesting, if true. We don't know what order these scenes in the trailer come in, but we see the Minus One design of Godzilla by the Statue of Liberty, and we see a different design emerging from the water. The second is bulkier, covered with more spikes, and has these new, protective shoulder blades. What if this is a second member of the same species? One could be male and the other female, and keeping them from nesting could add a sense of urgency in figuring out a way to get rid of them. Of course, in previous entries, Godzilla could reproduce asexually. However, in real life, there are living things that can reproduce both asexually or sexually, depending on what's most advantageous in the moment. If the bigger one has this anti-gravity ability we see lifting objects into the sky, this could be its method of gathering materials for its nest.
This probably isn't the case, but it would be interesting if they revealed the movie's second monster and people just didn't realize it because they assumed it was an evolved form of the same Godzilla. Personally, this sounds more interesting to me than having a second, unrelated monster for Godzilla to fight against. If it were King Ghidorah, for example, what would his role in the story be? Minus One Godzilla is very much the villain, so a second monster could maybe flip the script and be the one we're rooting for to kill Godzilla. Or maybe having two evil monsters fighting each other, while humans die as helpless bystanders, could be like a metaphor for two powerful countries competing with each other, to the detriment of everyone. I dunno. Two Godzillas, though, could be a straightforward way to up the stakes of the first movie. Two Godzillas, twice the trouble.
