I am all for space travel/exploration. However, it's not Star Trek time yet.

The closest major galaxy, Andromeda is 2.5 million light-years away, so moving along at 0.1C, it would take 25 million years to get there. A wormhole would be the preferred mode of transport, LOL. Or perhaps converting ourselves into pure energy. Heck, we are about 26,000 lights years from the center of our own galaxy, so you are likely looking at a time longer than human civilization has been around, just to get there. If aliens came here in a humanoid form, I'd be damn impressed.

BTW, we have been lucky with our moon missions. A large solar storm/proton event could deliver a lethal dose to anyone near Mars or the moon at the time. We are going to have to learn to predict these events or carry around water shields or something.

We are not equipped to comprehend the scale of spacetime. Most people still consider space and time as separate concepts. We don't have a grasp quantum gravity yet. Real space travel requires much more theoretical understanding. Do I agree Musk and Bezos should go to Mars? Absolutely.

I wrote a paper on this subject a while back if you are interested.

Yes, I am! Thank You. Just from the summary page, this is a most refreshing and realistic concept compared to all the garbage I have been seeing lately. Looking forward to reading this.

It would give me hope for the survival of humankind to hear some "higher-ups" in NASA actually discuss serious multi-decade/multi-generational efforts towards a settlement goal on an inhabitable planet. It took over 2 billion years for Earth to become livable, and this is actually longer than life on Earth probably has left.

I'm afraid you are going to be disappointed if "multi-generational" means on the ships as opposed to here on Earth.

Oh yeah, the reconnaissance required would be a task literally of astronomical proportions, because if you get 'there' and got it wrong, then what? And we are nowhere near having the cryogenic suspension, fusion/nuclear power, materials or the AI technology for such missions. Our big trouble is surviving our own idiocy for that long because Mars isn't going to save us. Pity that Proxima Centauri b is likely harsh. Crazy that its year is <12 Earth days and is locked so perpetual day/night.

I read an article stating that AI can take MRI data and accurately produce a mental image of a picture the subject was observing. I doubt humankind would survive the situational case if all our thoughts became communal. Imagine how fast relationships would crumble. Despite all our intellectual "chest beating" (pun intended); we are great apes, you know.
