How Does Religion Affect Critical Thinking?

The problem with all belief systems is that they try to fit reality into a predetermined set of assumptions while setting aside the evidence that contradicts their presumptions. They rarely give thought to their own beliefs and continue to hold onto the beliefs that their parents and community told them to believe. Most Religions demand that you accept their tenets without even questioning them, and they consider it heresy when someone tries to question them. Religious people will respond with "because of god" when they are stumped by the issue. Although "because of god" is not the solution to everything, it is sufficient for them, and they stop searching for reasons. The inability or unwillingness of anyone, from any worldview or perspective, to conduct further research on alternative ways of thinking is what stifles critical thinking the most. People’s capacity to think more is being diminished by religion. I came across a wonderful answer on thefaithmirror.com. You can check it out.

The citizenry of the United States is suffering a massive detachment from facts and reality. Including investors. For example, we have the "trump pardoned" Nikola founder who escaped jail and making good on a 680-million-dollar restitution package to clueless investors. This guy towed his alternate-fueled semi-truck up a hill and shot video of it rolling downhill. Now he says he is raising 1 billion-dollars for an "AI-powered light, SyberJet".

Every day I hear about victims of pig-butchering and romance scams. Grandma is convinced some billionaire or celebrity loves her and just needs some money so he can pay a fee and leave the airport and fly to her and take care of her. Trump's FEMA director Gregg Phillips has been teleporting via the power of Christianity. Millions of American dismiss vaccine effectivity and safety.

For the first time in 250 years, I feel the people of my nation have elected and empowered a government is being run by greedy scammers who have no concept of reality, integrity and who have no apparent obligation to uphold the constitution.

There are so many examples I could write for a year. Perhaps this is just how our species is and has always been. We started out poorly; after all, the first humans were fooled by a talking snake. Yeah, I believe that, LOL.

I think the most plausible explanation is evolutionary. If you are walking in your deerskins and hear a noise in the bushes and wait for evidence of a saber tooth tiger, you might not pass your genes along. Quick, gut level decisions were key for survival. No time to understand what is really going on. This doesn't serve us well now, especially since resources are becoming scarce and greed will necessarily win out over generosity.
