Imagine being a fully-grown adult and not knowing that the phases of the moon are caused by different parts of it being lit up by the sun relative to our vantage point on Earth. It doesn't actually grow or shrink.

You, perhaps, and luckily for you, do not spend enough time around the general populace to realize the incredible amount of ignorance on practically everything.

I live in the South. Trust me, I am well acquainted with stupidity, and also often weaponized stupidity (deliberately encouraged denialism for some, usually political, goal).

It bothers me because almost everyone I know has these little black rectangles which allow access to a wealth of information on almost any topic. People being unknowledgeable doesn't bother me. People deliberately choosing to pursue nonsense over knowledge and to promote it as an equal or superior alternative (alternative facts) bothers me.

I can't wait to rewrite this scene several times to get it down perfectly only to later leave it on the cutting room floor.
